Buddy Scheme

What we do

The buddy or peer to peer support scheme was developed through a process of desk research and workshops with service users. RUILS created the programme because as a User Led Organisation, it is committed to fully involving service users in both creating and delivering its services.

RUILS believes that the support that a peer can give to another peer is unique and has many benefits that go beyond what a member of staff can bring. Buddies offer their support  to their buddy client on the basis of being in contact at least once a week, for a period of three months.

An example of what we do

In the RUILS buddy scheme, peers act like coaches to support and encourage their buddy client to move forward and  work towards a goal that is important to them. Buddies help empower their buddy clients to work through any issues or problems and find solutions together (They are not there to take over, to act as an advocate or as a ‘be-friender’).

When we are available

The Buddy Scheme is facilitated by Caroline Thorogood. Caroline is available Monday and Tuesday 9 - 3 and Wednesday and Thursday 9 - 5.
