Council Day Centres: 1. The Access Project This is a Specialist Day Centre in Whitton for people aged 18 to 65 with a physical disability or sensory loss to access further education, physical therapies and activities, explore employment opportunities and meet other people. The centre is open from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday and offers a variety of sessions and services, including: •Art and cookery •Computing, digital photography and maths •Excercise and gardening •Discussion groups •Shiatsu and reflexology therapies •Chiropody and manicures •Guest speakers and taster activities, such as salsa dancing and accessible curling •An allocated link worker to discuss issues such as housing, health, finance and education •Food and drink at a reasonable cost Contact Cathy on 020 8898 3858 for more information.
2. Woodville Centre at Ham This centre is for individuals over the age of 60 with moderate to severe dementia who are unable to get out and about by themselves. Activities include: •Group exercises, gardening and dancing •Singing •Snooker, bowling and bingo •Crosswords, cards and quizzes •Discussion groups covering topics from current affairs to health issues and reminiscence to encourage social interaction •Art and music, including therapy •Internet access for reminiscence •Aromatherapy •Seasonal activities •Enjoying the garden. 3. Sheen Lane Centre for older people This centre is for Richmond residents over 60 with a frailty, disability or sensory loss and high level care needs who would otherwise be alone at home during the day. Activities include: •Armchair exercises •A falls prevention group •Relaxation sessions and aromatherapy •Internet access with support and training if needed •A range of tabletop activities to promote eye to hand coordination and stimulate the mind •A quiz group •Skittles •Cookery •Music appreciation •An art and craft group •Conversational French •Discussion groups covering a wide range of topics from current affairs to health issues and reminiscence to encourage social interaction •A monthly church service and private area for prayer •Regular outings and shopping trips Contact Val on 020 8876 1706 for more information.
