Volunteering

What we do

As a user led organisation, volunteers play a crucial role in the work that RUILS does.
There are many ways to volunteer with RUILS.

Some of our volunteers help us regularly in the office with project work or administration, while others help to drive forward new initiatives. Some volunteers come in to help with large mail-outs or with special one-off events. We also have a new group of volunteers who have all been trained to work as buddies or peer to peer supporters. Being a trustee is another way of volunteering.

An example of what we do

When someone is interested in volunteering at RUILS, our approach is to start with the individual and what they would like to gain from volunteering. We try to match volunteers as closely as possible with a role or project that fits their interests, skills and experience or fits with the type of new experience they are seeking to gain. All volunteers get ongoing support from their ‘link’ person with whom they will be working and get regular support sessions from the Volunteer and Community Involvement Officer.

“Volunteering with RUILS was a great experience and the staff are lovely. It gave me an excellent chance to improve my office skills. In fact my volunteering experience led directly to me finding a permanent administrative role.”

When we are available

The Volunteering Service is ran by Caroline Thorogood. Caroline is available Monday and Tuesday 9am - 3pm and Wednesday and Thursday 9am - 5pm.
