The Family Matters service will be running a Zoom workshop on managing anger in older children with SEND. The workshop will take place on Wednesday 19th May at 10.30am and will be delivered by Linda Campbell-Arthur, a Specialist Clinical Psychologist working for the Hounslow CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team, and in private practice. The workshop will focus on practical strategies for parents of older children (aged 10+) and will cover:
• recognising the causes and triggers for anger outbursts
• the positive behaviour support and low-arousal approaches to anger
• best ways to handle meltdowns
• the 'hidden' keys to reducing anger outbursts
This is how Linda describes her approach:
'With almost 20 years' experience working as a Clinical Psychologist in hospital, corporate, school, charity and private practice settings, I have learned the importance of balancing knowledge with supporting people to design their own solutions in life. Having been a parent to a child with complex additional needs for nearly as long, I have had even more to learn about patience, perseverance, hope - and finding what works. In working with many families whose children have differently complex challenges, I know that one size never fits all. But there are numerous evidence-based techniques and strategies that can make the 'special needs' journey much easier, and sometimes, change the destination altogether.'
