Take on a Captain Tom 100 challenge for Ruils!

Ruils is delighted to be joining the Captain Tom 100 to raise vital funds for our work as we support our disabled and elderly clients out of the pandemic. Many of our clients have been shielding for a year which has had a huge impact on their mental health and confidence. Some are simply too anxious to leave home.

Ruils is setting up a new service, called ‘Active at Home’, to support clients to gradually get out and about in a safe and supported way. Trained volunteers will meet clients at their home and support them to resume activities of their choice, such as walk to their local shop for a pint of milk. Befrienders would also facilitate introductions to local community groups, once these restart, such as walking groups, choirs or art groups, helping people to reconnect with their community.

Can you take on a Captain Tom 100 challenge for Ruils and help us to raise the funds needed to provide this service?

What do you need to do?

  • Come up with a challenge!  Bake 100 cakes, score 100 goals, eat 100 malteasers, cycle 100km, sing 100 songs, send 100 postcards, walk 100 laps of your garden…
  • Either set up a fundraising page to get sponsored, or make a donation to Ruils here

To set up a fundraising page it’s useful to have a photo handy and you can write a few lines to explain what you’re fundraising for. You could say:

“I’m taking on the Captain Tom 100 to raise vital funds for my local charity, Ruils, which is launching a new project to support disabled and elderly clients out of the pandemic. Many of their clients have been shielding for a year which has had a huge impact on their mental health and confidence.

Befrienders would also facilitate introductions to local community groups, once these restart, such as walking groups, choirs or art groups, helping people to reconnect with their community.”

  • If you are fundraising, share your page with your friends, family and colleagues and ask them to sponsor you – you could set yourself a target of raising £50 or whatever you wish!
  • Do your challenge during the long weekend of Friday 30th April – Monday 3rd May (or in the run up to that weekend)
  • If you post your progress on social media please tag Ruils and use the hash tag #CaptainTom100

Thank you for supporting Ruils. If you need any help with your challenge or fundraising please contact Carolyn - carolynjones@ruils.co.uk
