About Me

I oversee the services and projects that Ruils run and make sure that we are delivering the services that our clients want and need. I have been with Ruils in various roles for 16 years now and have been working with a great team of trustees, staff and volunteers to develop services that support individuals to live the life of their choice. My background is in Health Psychology and I have worked in the private medical health sector as well as being a recruitment consultant. I have two teenage boys and spend a lot of time ferrying them around or standing on the side of football and rugby pitches. I love reading and walking and travelling to new places.

Adult Team Manager     paulabuckton@ruils.co.uk     020 8831 6088

About Me

I joined the Ruils team in 2011 as a Support Planner and Broker for Self Directed Support in Richmond. At the same time I worked as a supervisor for Bluebird Care, a home care agency, setting up new care packages and supervising carers. My background before that was in retail marketing in the food industry. I joined Ruils in a full time role at the beginning of 2013 working on many different projects including Pooling Budgets and developing the find-a-pa website. I now manage the adult services team which includes GoLocal and the DP Support Service, providing information and advice, activities and support for individuals to choose and organise their care. I have lived in Twickenham for almost 30 years and know the area well, but originally I am from Leeds, and like most northerners, I call a spade a spade. To keep fit I row and cycle and my trusty bike is my main way of getting quickly around the Borough.

SEND Transition Advisor     suerobson@ruils.co.uk     020 8831 6413

About Me

I joined Ruils in July 2014 to continue co-ordinating the Sitting and Befriending Service when the Three Wings Trust sadly closed and this part of the operation was transferred to Ruils. I had been running the service for 9 years in which time it has grown from supporting just a small number of families with a handful of sitters/befrienders to now supporting over 80 families with more than 40 sitters/befrienders. I am delighted that Ruils embraced the service - personally, to be part of a dynamic and supportive team - and that families with children and young people with disabilities in the Borough will continue to benefit from the service. I am married with 3 children and my youngest, Sophie (now 16) is disabled. It was having Sophie that inspired me to pursue this career after an earlier career in computer technical support. Outside of work I love yoga and go dancing once a week which is based on Strickly ! At home, I enjoy reading and have discovered Kindle. I also love watching all the junk TV that my husband hates.

About Me

I have worked at Ruils since 2010 and loved every manic minute of being part of a team of passionate and dedicated individuals. I am a parent to a 15 year old with additional needs and my work has invariably been both a professional and personal investment. I started out as an ILA, moving to person centred transition planning, running the SEND pilot for Richmond and when it was all over, taking a hiatus from work for a couple of years and moving to a remote town in Canada with winters of -40 and magnificent views of the aurora borealis! I am now back at Ruils and work for the Family Matters project providing information and support to families in Richmond. My free time is spent being a taxi service to my kids, reading tomes and writing notes to myself!

Community Fundraising Manager     carolynjones@ruils.co.uk     020 8831 6083

About Me

I joined Ruils in 2016 as our first dedicated fundraiser, at a time when council funding was being cut and Ruils was passionate about continuing to provide services to local disabled people. We don’t receive any council funding for our children’s services, so I arrived with a clear task. Before having children, I worked as Assistant Director of Fundraising at Barnardo’s. Being the only fundraiser at Ruils is very different! My day might involve filling in an application for a big grant from Comic Relief, trekking the Thames Path for Ruils, carol singing at Richmond station or cheering marathon runners. I love the variety, and whilst I may be the only dedicated Fundraiser, the whole Ruils team gets involved in making sure our services are funded each year. I work part-time and my spare time sees me running (not that fast, sometimes for Ruils), swimming, reading, enjoying family & friend time and planning my next trip.

About Me

I joined Ruils in October 2019 and I work on the Pathways service as a caseworker. This project provides advice and advocacy on benefits, housing and social care. Since starting at Ruils, I have learned that the benefits and housing system can be a complete minefield to navigate. I hope this service can therefore provide people with the support and confidence they need and deserve. Prior to Ruils, I graduated in 2018 with a degree in history and philosophy. However, I’ve always been passionate about following a career path that would enable me to contribute positive change to people’s lives. Having said this, I am no stranger to the voluntary sector! I have volunteered abroad in hospitals and I have also been a part of multiple fundraising events during my educational years. The things I love most in life is good coffee, my dog, family, friends and travelling!

About Me

I am delighted to have joined Ruils in January 2021 as part of the Social Prescribing team. As a family we have been affected by disability and I am constantly inspired by the empathy and kindness shown by others. As a young adult I joined Amnesty International and spent many years writing to Prisoners of Conscience. This gave me my drive to fight against injustice and discrimination, my passion for advocacy was sparked. I spent fifteen years championing children and young people with Learning Disabilities to have their voices heard, particularly those living with Autism. My time as a volunteer had open my eyes to what a secret gem of a charity Ruils is. Ruils do incredible work in the community supporting disabled children and adults and the elderly to live independent lives. My work as Ruils’ Community and Volunteer Manager enables me to facilitate the delivery of a Befriending service, as well as a multitude of activities that include a theatre workshop, an allotment, a creative writing group, wellbeing walks and others as well. And the cherry on the cake, after 25 years of trains and tubes in Central London, I have a 10 minute walk to work!

About Me

I'm ecstatic to be a part of the Direct Payment Support Team at Ruils. As an Independent Living Advisor, I am excited to meet with clients and discuss their needs in order to determine their needs and assist them in overcoming social barriers to disability. I plan to apply what I've learnt from my past studies in law and voluntary work to my current position.

About Me

I joined Ruils in September 2021. After studying for a Masters in Clinical Psychology Research, I became a therapist within the NHS mental health service. I became interested in the field of special educational needs and disability (SEND) following my own personal experiences, and witnessing the difficulties individuals face in this area. Its always been really important for me to support and help people with the challenges they face. I feel my role at Ruils will help address the inequalities commonly encountered by individuals who have been impacted with SEND. I don’t get much time to myself but do I love travelling the world, and learning from different cultures. I love to run when I am able to, and have a goal to run a half marathon in 2022!

About Me

I had the privilege of joining the Ruils team in September 2021. My career path has been varied, ranging from health and beauty PR to painting children's furniture. I needed a change of career after my two children were born and had a very happy time working as a PLSA in the learning support department of different schools throughout the Richmond borough. Over the past 14 years I have worked at a Kingston charity providing services for people with a learning disability and their family carers, I started as a support worker and then went on to manage all aspects of running a small local charity. In my personal life I have just become a grandmother which is wonderful, I prefer being called nanny rather than granny. I love dogs and have just started open water swimming which I don't love yet, but I read it has many health benefits.
